Ahhh.  Back to school reminds me of one of the most memorable books I read in school.  A Tale of Two Cities.

Remember the opening paragraph,

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way—in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.”

How could you not.  It’s famous.

The opposites are which strike me as resonating with today.

Best : Worst = the dichotomy of our era

Wisdom : Foolishness = take action : miss opportunity

Belief : Incredulity = can : can’t

Light : Darkness = positive : negative

Hope : Despair = empowered to change : stay the same

Spring : Winter = potential : recover & prepare

Everything : Nothing = abundance : scarcity

Heaven : Other Way = promised land (best case) : hell & misery (worst case)

Two Opposites Make A Whole – Example

Left : Right

Up : Down

Over : Under

In : Out

Top : Bottom

Like Yin : Yang

Two Opposites Make A Whole – Personal

Back to School : Back to You

< Kid Focus : > You Focus

< Summer Adventures : > Fall Progress

< Participating : > Planning

< Spending : > Earning

< Health Withdrawals : > Health Deposits

< Consumption : > Productions

< Neglect : > Attention

< Ignoring : > Prioritizing

< Home Camp : > Boot Camp

< Irregular : > Routine

< On & Off, Here & There, Now & Then > More Recurring

< Aimless : > Plan

What’s between the lines that I’m eluding to is NOW is the time for many and maybe you too, to prioritize yourself, put you first, get yourself onto your schedule in a recurring manner and follow a plan that is structured and purposeful and takes you to where you want to go.

Kid summer is behind us. Adult summer is now.  If you have a kid, your childcare is now covered.  You’ve got a break everyday to catch your breath, recharge yourself and get stuff done.  You’ve got a long list of things that are important and though the school day is long, it’s never long enough, so you gotta spend most of the time sharpening the saw or planning out your day, week, month, quarter and school year now, so that when you take action (soon) it’s big and effective even if it’s incremental and you’re laying one brick at a time.

If you don’t have a kid(s), recognize that I’m projecting here because I do, so the short take away for you is that the transition from summer to fall is the same as any other transition new job, new home, new commute, new relationship, in that it’s a perfect time to create a new routine for yourself, build in your workout schedule before everything gets full and you get timed out.

Who am I?.  Much like our Tale of Two Things, I went to school to become an Athletic Trainer to fix injuries and became a Strength & Conditioning Coach to enhance performance.  I thought I wanted to work in professional sports and realized lifestyle was more important and training my peers was more rewarding.

Now I own a highly specialized, results-oriented performance training company, where I’ve been helping people like yourself for the last 26 years to change their identity and family trees by getting them into their best shape so they can do cool things and live their best lives.

Here are 2 ways I can help you take action now and make the most of this period of change.

  1.  Train w/ Me:  Be My Very Important Guest and outsource the thinking.
  2.  Train on Your Own and Get the Program.

  1.  Training w/ Me could start as soon as today or this week as it’s guest month (September 2025).  Go to bootcampboston.com/vig to get started and be my very important guest.

2.  Training On Your Own, BUT w/ a Results-Oriented Plan to take you from where you are today to your best self where you get to do cool things because you can. Get on the pre-sale list here to get your new program that’s built into an app, so it goes where you go, so you can do your workout anywhere.
