Coach Michelle Riordan Quigley

Born and raised in Newton, MA, Michelle developed her love of sports at an early age.  She excelled in high school soccer, basketball, and softball, earning her the top athletic female award at graduation.  At Boston College (BA, English), this eagle played varsity golf for two years and then completed her first marathon while in law school at the sunny, blonde sand and blue-skied University of Southern California (JD).  Within a few years of practicing employment litigation, labor, and sports law, Michelle knew the daily grind of billable hours, and endless hours sitting at a desk, were not a compliment for her positive and endless energy.

LIFE CHANGING MOMENT

In 2003, while working obscene hours at her law firm, Michelle received a life changing phone call from her mother, who had just been diagnosed with cancer.  A few months after successful surgery, mother and daughter decided to celebrate by competing in the 2004 Danskin Women’s Triathlon for Cancer Survivors and Research.  One of her greatest memories is seeing her mother cross the finish line and, with tears in her eyes, saying, “I’m a triathlete.  I’m alive.”

NEW CAREER PATH

Knowing her lifestyle of work-work-work was crushing her joy, she left her firm and lived in London for a year, studying the Bible and working for a church.  Upon her return, she worked part-time with a sports agent, part-time in the business office of a high school and she coached varsity softball.  During that time, she and her mom competed the Danskin for a third time, and Michelle found herself on the podium taking second in her age group.  She decided to do an Olympic triathlon and another sprint that year and podiumed at both.  She earned sponsorship and filled up her 2007 race season, hiring Mike Alves as her strength coach.  Enjoying training so much, Michelle decided to pursue a career in fitness and earned her personal trainer certification from the world renowned National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA-CPT) and began working at one of the most glamorous health clubs in the country, the Sports Club/LA.

EXCELLENCE, ENERGY & PASSION

Since starting at SCLA, Michelle developed a reputation as the “triathlon expert,” coaching and training all level of athletes from first-timer to Ironman.  To better serve her clients and feeding her endless desire to learn, Michelle became certified as a USAT-Level 1 triathlon coach and has partaken in numerous seminars on injury prevention, improved performance, and rehabilitation.  She designs strength routines and daily training plans for triathletes and runners, and works with individuals of all ages in their homes.

THE STAR CONTINUES TO RISE

Not to be outdone by her clients, Michelle also completed her first Ironman in 2009 at IM-Switzerland, and has the Boston Marathon on her radar for 2010.
